In 1994 she was clubbed in the knee at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in an attack arranged by her rival Tonya Harding's husband. The attack was supposed to help Harding defeat Kerrigan but in the end it backfired as Kerrigan went on to win the silver medal in the Olympics that year and Harding only took 8th place. I feel like the story of Nancy and Tonya really exhibits how literally no weapon formed against you will prosper. Tonya's reputation and life hasn't been the same since. She's been banned from the world of figure skating and has had several run- ins with the police. What do you think?

I guess today is "crush" day. Probably because I kind of/ sort of have a crush on someone that I'm trying to prevent from happening because I don't feel like getting all worked up and then getting my feelings hurt again. I think my problem is I'm not a passive crusher. I won't just sit back and fawn, eventually I'm going to do something to see if you like me back. That could be a good thing 'cause then I can't look back and wonder whether they liked me or not because I found out but still... getting your feeling hurt is getting your feelings hurt. Anywayz, last night I listened to this song and finally understood what it was about. I especially related to the first verse because sometimes I could swear I had this whole relationship with people that wasn't even there. I was reading too much into small things though and I'm learning not to. I'm also learning to like someone for who they are and not just because they (or at least I thought they did) liked me first. That brings me to a question: If we love God because he first loved us, do we also love others for the same reason? Like should we like someone, or at least give them a chance, if they like us first. I guess the answer could be common sense/simple but I'm interested in how other people would answer so please do.
Sidenote: This quote was probably what really really made me realize I don't want to be having crushes anymore.

Why do they call it a crush? Because that's how you feel when they don't feel the same way in return.

To me that makes it seem like anything you call a "crush" is destined to fail. That he/she is bound to crush you. But maybe they call it a crush for other reasons. Anywayz, I'm probably not completely through with crushes. It always seems like my feelings act on their own. Like I've been praying to not like this boy for the longest and the opposite is happening. Oh well. Whether we get together or not, I will be okay. That's one thing I've learned from all the ~~failed~~ crushes I've had. LIFE GOES ON. Just don't focus so much on being "on to the next one" though. Maybe you should live your life and wait for him to come to you instead of going after you. Just saying. The definition of insanity (at least some say) is trying the same thing over and over and expecting different results so why not be different this time around. At least it doesn't guarantee that you'll get the same result. And so ends my rant... LOL

Didn't sleep much last night but I did listen to some good Tamia songs. Most of the comments under the YouTube videos talked about how underrated she was. I think that's true. She can sing and her music has substance. Like every song I listened to I could relate to. I didn't have to twist my life around in my mind just so I could be like "yeah, I feel ya!!!". LOL, y'all know some of y'all do that, especially with rap songs. Anywayz, I really liked this song. It was refreshing because it sounds different and remakes a classic without messing it up. Do you like it?

Sidenote: Sooooo, Teyana Taylor is dating Brandon Jennings (that's who's in the photo for those who didn't know). If you've read my past post you would think I would be hurt by that but I'm straight though. I have let go of Brandon Jennings and Eric Berry. Urban Meyer's Leaving Florida?!

So apparently Urban Meyer, the head football coach at UF, is stepping down. That's a little surprising to hear but not really. Last year he expressed intentions to step down but then decided to just take a medical leave. I haven't followed this story closely so I don't have an expert opinion but I do have a lot of questions, being that I'm a student and all, about the situation. What's happened makes me wonder if Urban was really only staying for Tim Tebow. Some headlines that pair his leaving with how 30 players have been arrested during his reign also make me wonder if it was the players and their attitudes/behaviors that made him go. And then I think too that those headlines are misleading because they make it seem like (at least to me) that he is to blame for the arrest, that maybe he let them do whatever they wanted. I don't think that's true though. I think the arrest were just the price of having good players who were so blinded by attention from the media and fans that they forgot to pay attention to rules. The time that this announcement is being made also leaves me with some questions. Like how will the Gators do in their last game (which happens to be a Bowl Game) knowing that their Coach will be leaving them after it? Will Urban even coach the game? Will the players play or will they show their own anger about this year's season by blowing it (in the bad way)? And how will they focus on finals? Will the thoughts about what's going to happen next year distract them? Will it cause some of them to lose heart about playing? I don't think it should because they're main goal should be to come and play football. That might be the problem though. From hearing bits of a conversation on campus I think in some ways some younger players may be in it for the wrong reason. Yes, winning is good and it's for the most part the point but at the same time there's something else. You have to want to play for reasons other than winning and a part of me thinks some players on the team this year didn't understand that. Seems they loss heart as the losses piled up. #Imjustsayin

I like when it goes into the part "They're singing deck the halls...". Anywayz, we probably won't get a Christmas concert out of Mariah this year but I think that's a good thing. Did y'all hear her the last time she did a Christmas special??? OMG, I wanted to cry. But how can we expect her to keep her voice after all these years of singing. I know some will say "well look at Patti LaBelle (or some other classic singer who still sings today) she still has her voice". But has Patti LaBelle/some other classic singer who still sings today maintained the same steady level of popularity as Mariah Carey over the years??? She (meaning Patti) of course still performs but not at the frequency and level as Mariah Carey probably does. IDK though, I'm not an expert. Anywayz, I'll just settle for listening to how Mariah used to sound. P.S. I don't really read other blogs much these days so if I happen to post something about someone who recently experienced a tragedy please forgive me and let me know.

Lebron vs. Michael

So I don't know if you've seen it but Lebron James has a Nike commercial centered around the question "What should I do?". It's in part about the criticism he's been facing for leaving Cleveland. He talks about living up to other people's expectations and how he hasn't won a championship yet. I thought it was very revealing and surprisingly personal. It kinda made me feel sorry for him but then I saw Michael Jordan's commercial in response to it and now I'm like "uhhhhh".

Michael talks about it maybe being his fault for leading Lebron on to think that being like him was easy. He talks about how maybe he didn't show just how much hard work he put in to get where he got. He says all that but then ends with "maybe it was my fault or maybe you're just making up excuses". I was like "ohhhh, burn". I can't believe he was so blunt! I don't think I agree with him though because I've always thought of Lebron as working hard for his success. Then again I think I just thought that without ever really seeing any evidence. I just assumed since he always was so passionate about not losing that he worked hard. Maybe he doesn't though or maybe ~~you're just making excuses~~ Nike is just trying to stir up some drama. Anywayz what do you think of the commercials?

This song reminds me of it because it's like a lot of times girls/women think they're all that because guys are trying to holler when really it's just they're showing their sex in a way that makes men think they can easily get it. I like how Sandra puts it (I know she isn't the original person who said it) because it explains how basically anyone can get a man. The formula is simple: dress half naked, put yourself out there. The real challenge is... keeping one. It's finding one that will stay with you not only when your flashy but also when you're plain without the make-up, earrings, tight clothes, high heels etc. I think it's important that we as girls (sorry if you're a guy reading this) realize that all the short skirts, short shorts, short dresses, tight everything are not winning men. They're just drawing in hounds who see in us something that's easy, something that's available, something that seems like it wants to be taken. I watched this video on another site and this man said "If you're not a ho, don't dress like one." That's true too. People will change the way they treat you based on what you look like. Some men may not even normally be all about sex but because that's the way you step to him, that's the way your clothes arouse him, that's how he's going to act. I think we should also know too that love and desire are two different things. Just because a man wants you doesn't mean he genuinely likes you. Now if you only want someone to desire you that's fine but I think a lot of us are looking for real love. We need to know though that dressing half- naked is not the way we're for the most part going to attract it. Just something I've been wanting to say.

So I'm watching He Got Game ~~for the first time ever~~ and the whole sequence with Rick Fox and Ray Allen really hit home to me. I guess it's because I'm in college and I see these things playing out. Anyways, the part when they're at the table talking about dating black women versus white women especially caught my attention. Basically I thought it was interesting when Rick's character responded "they make you work too hard" when Ray/Jesus asked "what about [hooking up with] the sistahs?". Rick's response was funny because shouldn't he as an athlete understand how great things come from putting in hard work??? Shouldn't he remember how valuable things like championships and awards aren't given, they're earned??? Whatever though. All in all it was a good movie and Ray Allen was looking too fine in it (LOL)!!!

Really Naomi Campbell??? Someone captured this image while she was doing a photoshoot in New York yesterday. It kinda makes me sad. Like I wonder because in the public she's portrayed as this beautiful, exotic being and she wears this long, silky hair but then behind doors or whenever she removes what's on her head, something else shows. Something not as good, IMO. I wonder how she deals with that. But then again, she may love herself regardless of her hair and whether she's wearing a wig or not may not affect her self- esteem. This should be a lesson to all though about how trying to look good temporarily may be dangerous and not worth it in the long run. Like buying those too little shoes because you want them or want to seem like you have smaller feet might mess up your feet for good. Getting those microbraids because they look nice and last may just leave you with no edges. Hair extensions may leave you like Britney Spears, and so on and so on. I think in the end it's best to just work with what you have or take a less damaging route. Sidenote: One thing I like about this is, regardless of it she still has a man who, I assume, loves her. Then again a lot of people are saying regardless of the hair problem she's still really beautiful. Maybe that's why he's with her. Y'all practically came close to destroying his career and I think those tears were the result of a buildup from everything. From stores not stocking his cds, from BET not letting him perform the first time, all of it. It's good they gave him a second chance though. I think they look interesting but I wonder how they play on the court. Sidenote: If you could get a shoe deal who would sign with? I would go with Nike because it wouldn't bother me to be restricted to wearing only what they make. They have nice sneakers, clothes, hats, IPOD arm bands (LOL), everything. Not sure if you could say that for other brands. Bad thing about being with Nike, at least as an athlete, is that you get out-shined by the multitude of stars that are also with them. Like the majority of players from every sport are probably signed with them so it'll be hard for you to stand out. Unless you're the next Jordan you probably won't get your own shoe and even if you do advertisement of it won't be heavy. On the other hand, signing to a little known brand or one with less stars provides you with the opportunity to become the face of the company. It might even ensure that they advertise you to the fullest since they don't have the next big thing yet and are trying to create it. <--Not a professional opinion though, just my viewpoint.

I completely agree. I mean yeah some black women are trifling and problematic but not all of us are. It's not right to make such a general statement or speak about others when your group isn't perfect itself. I mean black men are not the best examples of loyal, faithful human beings but you don't see many black women complaining about it. You don't see many of us dogging them out and saying we're only going to date someone from another race. No, you see us standing behind them. Mourning when we lose them to the streets, to gangs, to the prison system and raising them up as single mothers. I really can't understand how and why a black man would not like a black woman since without one he wouldn't be here. Without one he couldn't create a son or daughter like him.
